Bishop spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony about the goals of Bitterroot Health, and said though they are headquartered in Hamilton, “the valley as a whole is primarily what our mission is.”īishop said this after the ceremony: “Since our start and our early roots in Hamilton, we have adhered to our mission of providing care for all in the Bitterroot Valley. In total, it will cost over $6 million and is planned to reach completion by late 2023. The facility will also be taking on a new doctor, Carlee Kalbfleisch, MD. The latter will come after the building is operational. The facility project took two years to plan and will include space for walk-in service, limited emergency services, an X-ray suite, primary care facilities, home for the ambulance, rehabilitation services and crew and a future pharmacy. The median age in the town was 40.8 years. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.94. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 303 households, of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.6% were married couples living together, 14.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 40.9% were non-families. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population. The racial makeup of the town was 91.3% White, 0.1% African American, 4.2% Native American, 0.8% Asian, and 3.6% from two or more races. There were 360 housing units at an average density of 620.7 per square mile (239.7/km 2). The population density was 1,241.4 inhabitants per square mile (479.3/km 2). This climatic region is typified by large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. The area south of Darby is called nɫpapʔá in Salish. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.58 square miles (1.50 km 2), all of it land.
